Sri lankan raksha traditional wooden hand crafted mask

Hand Carved Wooden Traditional Cobra Fire Mask. Wall hang. Gorgeous home décor, collectible. Made in 1980-1990. The “Raksha” are exotic demons, with bulging eyes and protruding tongues. This one is crowned with a three-headed serpent. It has been carved and lacquered to produce a beautiful and elegant effect, despite the demonic nature. The Raksha masks are used in festivals and ceremonies. According to the Sri Lankan culture, this Cobra mask is said to capture its enemies and makes them slaves, whereas, as a Fire mask wards off evil spirit.
