The Aavik D-280 is a premium digital to analogue converter designed and manufactured in Denmark.

It delivers a natural, dynamic and highly detailed musical presentation, with a very low noise floor, excellent separation and a spacious, precisely organised soundstage.

The digital section provides five digital inputs, consisting of two BNC S/PDIF inputs, two optical TOSLINK inputs and one fully isolated asynchronous USB input.

The BNC and optical inputs support PCM signals up to 24 bit and 192 kHz. The USB input supports PCM playback up to 24 bit and 192 kHz, together with DSD64 and DSD128.

The fully isolated asynchronous USB input helps prevent electrical noise from a connected computer, streamer or music server from entering the sensitive audio circuitry.

Incoming digital signals are processed by an asynchronous sample rate converter. The signal is resampled and reclocked before digital to analogue conversion, helping to minimise timing errors and jitter.

Aavik has placed particular emphasis on reducing unwanted electrical and high frequency noise.

The D-280 incorporates 72 Active Tesla Coils, 176 Active Square Tesla Coils and eight analogue dither circuits.

The Active Tesla Coils are designed to counteract incoming electrical noise, while the Active Square Tesla Coils are integrated directly into the circuit boards and positioned close to the signal paths.

The analogue dither circuits help reduce the system noise floor, allowing more low level musical information, texture and spatial detail to be reproduced.

The cabinet is manufactured from a low resonance composite material. This construction helps minimise mechanical vibration and avoids the unwanted electrical interaction that can occur with conventional heavy metal enclosures.

The simple Scandinavian exterior features a large red display and an intuitive multifunction control system. The unit can be operated from the front panel or with the supplied Apple remote.

The D-280 also provides selectable digital processing options. Upsampling can be switched on or off, with slow and fast digital filter settings available to suit the connected system and personal listening preference.
