A very capable and easy-to-use Samsung SMX-K40 digital camcorder, ideal for anyone who wants the classic handheld camcorder experience without dealing with tapes or complicated equipment. With its powerful Schneider KREUZNACH zoom lens, optical image stabilization and convenient SD-card recording, it is a great choice for family videos, travel, events, everyday recording, or anyone who enjoys the distinctive look of late-2000s digital camcorders.
The SMX-K40 records directly to SD/SDHC/MMC memory cards, making it simple to record, transfer and store footage. There are no tapes to rewind and no mechanical tape transport to worry about. This example is supplied with an SD memory card, so it is ready for use.
One of the strongest features of this model is its Schneider KREUZNACH lens, providing an impressive 52x optical zoom and up to 65x Intelli-Zoom. This gives the camcorder excellent reach for distant subjects while retaining the convenience of a compact handheld design. Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) helps reduce camera shake, particularly useful when shooting handheld or using the longer end of the zoom.
The camera records in standard definition at 720 × 480. The “Full HD” feature shown on the camcorder refers to its Near Full HD up-scaling/playback capability: when connected to a compatible HDTV through HDMI, recorded footage can be upscaled for output at up to 1920 × 1080/60p. It does not record native Full HD video.
The large 2.7-inch widescreen LCD makes framing and reviewing footage straightforward, while useful features such as time-lapse/interval recording, automatic white balance, backlight compensation and WindCut Plus provide additional flexibility when recording.
Samsung also incorporated its Intelli-Studio workflow into the camcorder, originally designed to make transferring, organizing and editing footage easier, together with its YouTube Direct sharing functionality. These features are particularly representative of the period when dedicated camcorders were becoming closely integrated with computers and online video sharing.
Condition & Included Accessories
This particular camcorder is in excellent overall condition, exactly as shown in the high-resolution professional photographs. It has been fully tested and is working correctly.
The battery has also been tested and is healthy, holding its charge and lasting as it should.
Included with the camcorder are an SD memory card and a USB cable. The USB cable can be used both to transfer recorded videos to a computer and to charge the camcorder, making the complete setup especially convenient for everyday use.
Important Note About the Front Lens Cover
Please note that this model originally had an automatic front lens cover. Normally, when the camcorder is switched off, the cover closes automatically to protect the lens, and when the camcorder is switched on, it opens automatically.
On this particular unit, the automatic cover developed a fault and remained closed instead of opening correctly. For this reason, the cover was professionally removed, permanently eliminating the problem.
The front lens is therefore now exposed, exactly as shown in the photographs. This does not affect the functionality or image quality of the camcorder in any way. The zoom, focus, stabilization, recording and all other functions continue to operate correctly. The only difference is that there is no longer an automatic protective cover in front of the lens.
Overall, this is a very nice and fully working example of Samsung’s compact memory-card camcorder generation, combining a huge 52x optical Schneider zoom, image stabilization, straightforward SD-card recording and the unmistakable experience of shooting with a dedicated handheld video camera.
