The first coin of the series "Ships that Changed the World" is dedicated to ship "Santa Maria", the largest of the three ships that were used by Christopher Columbus between 1492 and 1493 in his first journey to find a faster trade route to the East Indies; journey that led instead to the discovery of the islands off the coast of America.
