An important and nice patinated metal sculpture designed by French Demeter H Chiparus circa 1930 that represents an elegant panther on the lookout.
**The original marble base Signed D H Chiparus on the base is missing**
Demeter H Chiparus ( 1888-1950 ), born in Romania, was a student of Jean Boucher and Antonin Mercier.
In the 20’s, his work was influenced by the interest in Egypt after the excavation of the Pharaon’s tombs.
Then in the 30’s, by the ” Ballets Russes “.
He executed many sculptures in bronze or bronze and ivory.
His work was recognized any time, he’s still the most sought of the decorative sculptor of the 30’s.
