19th century qing dynasty chinese blue & white ginger jar
- Condition: Used
A very attractive hand-painted blue & white ginger jar from the late Qing dynasty (19th century), decorated in cobalt underglaze with a lively continuous landscape scene. The artist uses bold freehand brushstrokes to show a stylized natural setting: mountains and hills, trees and reeds, two small boats on the water, a figure fishing, and two goats or small animals near a rustic farmhouse structure. A simple hatched border runs around the shoulder, typical for provincial workshop production of this period.
The glaze is slightly bluish-white with natural kiln specks and imperfections. Inside the jar there are some fine glaze lines, and on the outside on the bottom area there is one very thin surface line — these are only in the glaze. The jar was tested with water and there is absolutely no leaking at all. These small glaze lines are not significant.
This jar is in very good condition overall, and it comes with its original lid .
This example is very similar in style and type to the 19th century ginger jar in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims
Approximate size & weight: height 18 cm, width 17 cm, weight 1045 grams (with lid) .
A beautiful authentic late Qing folk painting ginger jar with strong decorative presence and great character. Perfect for collectors and for interior display. Please check all photos for close-up detail and condition.
