The Canon PowerShot Pro70 is one of Canon's most distinctive early digital cameras, introduced in the late 1990s as a bridge between compact cameras and professional systems. It features a high-quality Canon 7x optical zoom lens (approximately 28–200mm equivalent), a bright f/2.0–2.5 aperture, a 1.5-megapixel CCD sensor, full manual exposure controls including Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes, an optical viewfinder, rear LCD monitor, built-in pop-up flash, hot shoe for external Canon Speedlite flashes, excellent Super Macro capability, and CompactFlash (CF) memory card support. It remains a popular and highly collectible vintage digital camera for enthusiasts who appreciate the unique look and character of early digital photography.
This camera is in excellent cosmetic condition with only some mild signs of normal use on the body. The rear LCD screen is clean and free from scratches. The optical viewfinder has two very small dust particles—one near the bottom and one towards the upper-right corner. These do not affect composing or taking photographs, and you can still view, compose and shoot normally without any interference.
The camera has been fully tested and works great. All functions operate correctly, including autofocus, zoom in and out, flash, buttons, menus, image capture, and playback.
The camera uses CompactFlash (CF) memory cards (not included in this listing).
It can be powered by either:
Canon BP-511 rechargeable Li-Ion battery, or
2CR5 lithium battery, the same battery type commonly used in many vintage film cameras.
The camera comes with one of these two battery types.
Important Note
The camera has one issue that should be noted carefully.
The outer protective glass in front of the lens (this is not the actual lens itself) has developed imperfections that resemble fungus or internal staining. The marks appear to be inside the outer protective glass, rather than on its surface or on the actual lens elements.
This has some effect on image quality, although it is relatively minor. If you examine the photos carefully, you may notice some faint darker lines or streaks. In many everyday photographs the effect is barely noticeable.
To demonstrate this honestly, I have included two sample images taken with this camera:
One taken at the widest zoom setting, where the imperfections are almost impossible to notice.
One taken at full telephoto zoom, where the effect becomes slightly more visible.
Please note that the visibility of these imperfections depends greatly on the subject being photographed. A clear blue sky is one of the easiest backgrounds on which to see dust or optical imperfections, while many other scenes may show the issue much less—or not at all.
Despite this issue, the camera remains fully functional and is still an enjoyable vintage digital camera to use. It would be ideal for someone who does not mind this minor optical defect and simply wants to experience the charm of early digital photography. It could also suit someone with the skills to disassemble the camera and clean the affected outer protective glass, or it can be purchased as a donor camera for parts.
