Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 – 6MP CCD Digital Camera – Carl Zeiss – Excellent Condition
A beautiful Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30, one of Sony’s iconic compact digital cameras from the mid-2000s. Featuring a 6.0-megapixel CCD sensor, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens and built-in Xenon flash, this little camera produces the unmistakable early-digital/Y2K look that has become highly desirable again today.
Early Cyber-shot cameras have gained a strong following among photographers, collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate their distinctive colours, direct-flash aesthetic and the character of CCD technology. Unlike a modern smartphone, the DSC-W30 gives you the experience of using a real dedicated camera — physical controls, optical zoom, mechanical lens cover and the satisfying tactile feel of a compact camera from the 2000s.
Condition
The camera is in excellent overall condition, as can be clearly seen in the high-definition photographs provided. It has been very well preserved, with only a few very small cosmetic imperfections on the body consistent with its age.
The lens, screen, controls and exterior are all in very nice condition. Please carefully review the high-resolution photographs, which show the actual camera you will receive and form an important part of the description.
Memory Card – Included
The DSC-W30 originally uses Sony Memory Stick Duo media.
Today, these original Sony memory cards are quite difficult to find and can be relatively expensive. If you use an original Memory Stick Duo, transferring your photographs can also be less convenient, as you would need either a compatible Sony Memory Stick card reader or the appropriate USB cable for direct transfer from the camera.
For this reason, I have included a Sony Duo-to-microSD adapter together with a 2GB Samsung microSD card. This allows you to use a modern, easily replaceable microSD card while keeping the camera compatible with its original memory format.
The included 2GB microSD card is the maximum capacity suitable for this camera and can store approximately 660 photographs at the highest image-quality setting, providing plenty of storage for everyday shooting.
Important Note Regarding the Memory Card
There is one small issue that I want to explain clearly.
Normally, the Memory Stick Duo is inserted and removed using a push-to-release mechanism. On this particular camera, the release mechanism does not work correctly, so the Sony adapter can remain stuck inside the camera when you push it to release it.
However, because Sony Memory Stick Duo cards are difficult and relatively expensive to find today, and because using them can require a compatible card reader or the appropriate USB cable for transferring photographs, I have deliberately included the Duo-to-microSD adapter and 2GB microSD card instead.
The adapter can simply remain inside the camera permanently, so the issue with the release mechanism does not interfere with normal shooting or everyday use.
The microSD card itself is positioned at the upper part of the adapter and can be removed with a fingernail if ever necessary. However, there is normally no reason to remove it, as the included USB cable allows you to transfer your photographs directly from the camera to a computer.
Should the microSD card or adapter ever need replacing in the future, both are easily replaceable with standard components. With the appropriate tool, the adapter can also be removed and replaced.
I want to be completely transparent about this small issue, which is why I have also reduced the price from €165 to €150.
Ready to Shoot
The camera comes with the accessories needed to start shooting straight away:
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30
2GB Samsung microSD card
Sony Memory Stick Duo-to-microSD adapter
USB transfer cable
Battery charger
Battery health tested and confirmed to be in good condition
Everything is included as a practical package, so you can simply charge the battery, insert the card and start taking photographs.
Why the DSC-W30?
The DSC-W30 is particularly appealing today because it offers the authentic early-digital camera experience, rather than simply imitating it with filters on a modern smartphone.
The combination of the 6MP CCD sensor, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optics and Xenon flash produces photographs with a distinctive character that is very different from today's heavily processed smartphone images.
It is especially fun for everyday snapshots, parties, travel, street photography, social-media content and anyone looking for that authentic 2000s digital/Y2K aesthetic straight out of the camera.
The physical controls, optical zoom, mechanical lens cover and dedicated shutter button also make it a genuinely enjoyable camera to carry and use.
The camera original price was €165, but I have reduced it to €150 because of the Memory Stick release-mechanism issue described above.
Considering the excellent overall condition, tested battery, charger, USB transfer cable, Sony adapter and included 2GB microSD card, this is a very complete package and is ready to use immediately.
Please review all the high-definition photographs carefully for the exact cosmetic condition and included accessories.
