Fujifilm FinePix E510 – Rare Retro 2000s Digicam with CCD Sensor, 28mm Wide-Angle Lens & Classic Fujifilm Colours
The Fujifilm FinePix E510 is a fantastic early-2000s digital camera, originally introduced in 2004, and today it has a special appeal among collectors, photography enthusiasts and anyone who loves the unique character of classic digital cameras.
Unlike modern cameras and smartphones, the E510 features a 5.2-megapixel CCD sensor, producing the distinctive look associated with early Fujifilm digital cameras. The images have a beautiful nostalgic character, with rich colours, strong contrast and that unmistakable retro Y2K digicam aesthetic that has become popular again.
One particularly interesting feature is the E510's classic Fujifilm in-camera colour settings, including Standard, Chrome and Black & White. These allow you to give your photographs different looks directly in the camera, without needing to edit them afterwards. The Chrome setting in particular can produce punchy, vibrant colours that add to the distinctive character of photographs taken with this generation of Fujifilm cameras.
28mm Wide-Angle Lens
Another major advantage of the E510 is its 28mm equivalent wide-angle lens. Many compact cameras from this era started around 35–38mm, making the E510 considerably more versatile.
The 28mm perspective is excellent for landscapes, architecture, travel, interiors and group photographs, while also making it a very useful everyday camera.
More Than Just a Point-and-Shoot
Although compact and easy to use, the E510 offers surprisingly advanced photographic controls. It features Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes, allowing you to take much greater control over exposure and experiment creatively with the camera.
It also has a built-in optical viewfinder, a feature that has almost completely disappeared from modern compact cameras.
The camera has a solid, high-quality aluminium body, giving it a much more premium feel than many plastic compact cameras from the same period. Another great feature is the fun pop-up flash, which adds to the classic early-digital-camera experience and is especially enjoyable for retro photography.
Memory Card & Included Accessories
The FinePix E510 uses the older xD-Picture Card format, which is not as easy to find today as modern memory cards.
For this reason, I am including a 1GB memory card with the camera, so you can start using it without having to search for a suitable card separately.
With the included 1GB card, you can store approximately:
412 photos at 5-megapixel Fine quality
819 photos at 5-megapixel Normal quality
This gives you plenty of space for a good day of shooting.
And to make transferring your photographs to your computer as easy as possible, I also include a USB xD-Picture Card reader in the package. Simply insert the memory card into the reader and connect it to your computer to easily transfer your photographs.
Standard AA Batteries
The camera uses standard AA batteries rather than a proprietary rechargeable battery. This makes it very convenient, as AA batteries are widely available and you don't have to worry about finding a special vintage charger.
Condition
The camera is in excellent overall condition, especially considering its age.
There is only one very thin scratch on the LCD screen. It is minor and most of the time is barely noticeable. More importantly, it does not affect the operation of the camera or the photographs in any way. The scratch is, of course, not visible in the photographs taken with the camera.
The camera has been well cared for and remains a beautiful example of this classic Fujifilm model.
A Genuine Retro Digicam Experience
The FinePix E510 is more than simply an old digital camera. It represents an interesting period in photography when manufacturers were moving from film to digital, while still giving cameras their own distinctive character.
With its 5.2MP CCD sensor, classic Fujifilm colour settings, 28mm wide-angle lens, manual controls, optical viewfinder, high-quality aluminium body and fun pop-up flash, the E510 offers a shooting experience that is very different from today's smartphones and modern digital cameras.
It is an excellent choice for collectors, retro/Y2K photography enthusiasts, Fujifilm fans, travellers, beginners or anyone who simply wants to have fun with a genuine early-2000s digicam.
A charming and increasingly interesting piece of early digital photography that offers something genuinely different from today's ultra-sharp smartphone cameras.
