As a video source it plays 4K UHD Blu-ray with HDR10 and Dolby Vision over HDMI 2.0, with a second HDMI 1.4 audio output for processors that cannot take the video feed. As a disc player for music it reads SACD and DVD-Audio, which almost nothing current will do. As a DAC it accepts coaxial and optical at up to 24-bit/192kHz and asynchronous USB to 768kHz PCM and DSD, feeding a stereo section with balanced XLR and RCA outputs.How it sounds and where it fitsTwo ES9038PRO converters are fitted, one serving the stereo outputs and one the 7.1 channel outputs, behind a toroidal transformer with separate digital and analogue supplies. The result is a player that can be treated as a genuine two channel source rather than a cinema box with an audio afterthought. It suits a system where one rack must cover films, SACD, CD and a streamer, and partners well with a balanced preamplifier or processor.
