Beyond cleaning and distributing the supply it measures what the system is actually drawing and what the mains is actually doing, and displays it. That measurement function is genuinely useful rather than decorative. Knowing the real current draw of a power amplifier under load, and seeing the mains voltage sag when it peaks, tells you things about your system and your electrical installation that no amount of listening will. It treats each outlet individually rather than filtering everything through one common stage, so a power amplifier is not restricted by a filter sized for a source component.
