Current model, hand built in France, supplied without a mains cable. The Volta S is the mains distribution block from Esprit, the French cable maker. It takes one mains cable from the wall and feeds eight Schuko sockets, so a full source, preamplifier and power amplifier system runs from a single point. Unlike most of the Esprit items we currently list, the Volta S is a current production model and is supplied new. What it does A distribution block sits between the wall socket and everything else, so it carries the whole current draw of the system and sets the earth reference for every component plugged into it. The Volta S is built on a machined aluminium chassis 4mm thick, wired internally with 6 mm² silver plated pure copper, with silver plated contacts throughout. Esprit apply their filtering to the earth and to the chassis as well as to live and neutral, which is what separates it from an ordinary block. The casework is damped to limit vibration reaching the internal wiring. How it sounds and where it fits Mains products are the hardest category to describe honestly, because what they do depends on the supply in your room and on how noisy your own equipment is. A block like this earns its place where several components share one wall socket through a domestic extension lead, and where streamers, switch mode supplies or class D amplification sit on the same circuit. In very good condition, with light marks of use. It is supplied without a mains cable, so the feed cable is chosen separately to suit the system. Supplied in the original packaging. No. The Volta S has an IEC inlet and Esprit leave the feed cable to you, because it carries current for the whole system. Ask us and we will suggest a match from the Esprit range. Can I plug a power amplifier into it? Yes. The 6 mm² internal wiring is a generous cross section for a distribution block, and the design is intended to feed a complete system including amplification. How is this different from a surge protected extension lead? An ordinary lead is thin wire in a plastic moulding with no attention to contact quality. The Volta S uses heavy earthed aluminium casework, far larger conductors, silver plated contacts and mechanical damping.
