It is the version without a CD drive, for listeners whose music already lives on a streaming service, a network share or an internal drive. This is brand new boxed stock, supplied by Dreamcrest Audio as an authorised Eversolo dealer with the full manufacturer warranty. What it does It replaces a streamer, a DAC and a preamplifier with one unit. Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, Apple Music and Deezer run on the unit, with Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Spotify Connect supported, and it is certified Roon Ready. Files play from SMB, NFS or WebDAV shares, from an internal M.2 NVMe drive or from USB. An AK4191EQ modulator feeding an AK4499EX converter decodes PCM to 768kHz and native DSD512, with R-2R ladder volume control in the analogue domain. Gen 2 against Gen 1, and standard against Master Edition Gen 2 carries over the AK4191EQ and AK4499EX pairing from the original DMP-A8 and changes what surrounds it. The display grows to 8.6 inches, the platform moves to an eight core processor with 8GB of DDR5 and 64GB of storage, an SFP fibre port is added, and room correction becomes evotune Pro with a 20 band equaliser. Against the Master Edition Gen 2, this standard version leaves out three things: the top loading CD playback and ripping system, the OCXO oscillator with PLL and its external clock input, and the taller chassis those require. Clocking here is a dual ultra low phase noise femtosecond arrangement. Converter, screen and every input and output are the same, so the choice comes down to whether you want to play and rip discs. How it sounds and where it fits The AKM pairing is even handed rather than forward, which suits systems already energetic at the top end. R-2R ladder volume keeps low level listening solid instead of hollow. The 4.2V balanced output drives most power amplifiers directly, and the subwoofer output with evotune Pro correction makes it practical with standmount speakers in a small room.
