Reference digital to analogue converter with AES/EBU, coaxial, BNC, optical and USB inputs. The D50 is Hegel's reference digital to analogue converter, nicknamed The Raven. It draws on more than two decades of Hegel DAC design, and the work has gone into the circuit design and layout around the converter chip rather than into the chip choice alone.Power management is a large part of that. Filters on the mains input remove noise, and two low noise toroidal transformers separate the noisier digital and standby functions from the sensitive analogue and digital circuits, each shielded in thick steel and placed away from the signal path. The AES/EBU input uses an RS422 receiver balanced by a transformer so it handles weak and strong signals equally. S/PDIF and USB signals are reclocked by three dedicated master clocks, one for S/PDIF and separate clocks for the 48k and 44.1k USB families.
