What it does A transport reads the disc and sends the digital data onward, leaving conversion to your own converter. The PL200T uses the SMSL P.A.S.S. servo system with a top loading mechanism and a weighted clamp, and outputs on optical, coaxial, AES/EBU and I2S. It natively supports MQA-CD. Connect a computer or streamer to its USB input and it becomes a digital to digital converter, passing PCM to 32-bit 768kHz and native DSD512 out of the I2S connection. Two femtosecond crystal oscillators handle local timing, and there is a clock input for a 44.1kHz word clock or a 10MHz reference with selectable 50 ohm or 75 ohm matching. How it sounds and where it fits A transport has no tonal character in the way an amplifier does, but timing accuracy and a stable mechanism affect how settled a CD sounds through a given converter.
