F2 The Braun FM300 is a simple and enjoyable 35mm compact film camera sold under the well-known German Braun Photo Technik name. Although Braun was historically a German photographic company, the FM300 itself was not an original German-designed camera. By the late 1990s and early 2000s, Braun was increasingly selling compact cameras sourced from Asian OEM manufacturers. The FM300 is based on the Premier M-300, produced by Premier Image Technology, a major Taiwanese camera manufacturer that supplied cameras to many different brands. The same basic camera chassis was sold internationally under several different names and labels. Very similar or essentially identical versions can be found as the Icam BVF 330, along with versions sold under brands such as Vivitar, Keystone and Euro-Shop. The distinctive design is easy to recognise from the three vertical indicators on the front, the sliding lens-cover switch and the oval Fill-In Flash control. For film lovers, this is a straightforward camera made for simple everyday shooting. It uses standard 35mm film and features a fixed 35mm lens, a very useful focal length for holidays, street photography, family photos and casual snapshots. Operation is very easy: load the film, close the back, slide open the lens cover and the camera is ready to shoot. The camera handles the exposure automatically, while the built-in flash can be used when additional light is needed. The dedicated Fill-In Flash function is also useful when photographing subjects against bright backgrounds or when a little extra light is needed on the subject.
