Antique syrian inlaid box c.1900 mother of pearl & bone

Handcrafted antique Syrian inlaid box, dating from around 1900 according to a specialist assessment. Beautiful geometric mosaic decoration featuring genuine mother-of-pearl, various woods and pale natural inlays believed to be bone. The pale material is visible in several chipped areas, including a close-up photograph showing its internal structure. The box is decorated by hand on the lid and all sides with intricate geometric inlay. The interior is lined with red fabric. According to a specialist in Islamic and Asian art, the box dates from around 1900 and is typical of work associated with Syria and neighbouring regions. The box is in antique, unrestored condition with age-related wear, small chips and some missing inlay, all clearly shown in the photographs. Approx. dimensions: 10 × 8 × 5 cm. A beautiful authentic antique decorative piece with over 100 years of history.
