Alan caiger-smith studio pottery goblet hand-painted tin-glazed ceramic, signed
- Κατάσταση: Μεταχειρισμένο
This beautifully crafted goblet-form ceramic vessel is an exquisite example of Alan Caiger-Smith pottery, showcasing the master potter’s deep engagement with historical tin-glaze traditions and painterly surface decoration.
The piece is wheel-thrown with a finely balanced stem and circular foot, rising into a gently flared bowl. It is decorated in a luminous blue and turquoise palette on a soft white ground, recalling Islamic and Hispano-Moresque influences that were central to Caiger-Smith’s work. Flowing vertical bands, rhythmic arches, and stylised vegetal motifs are painted with confident, fluid brushstrokes, creating a sense of movement and harmony around the form. The decoration wraps continuously around the body, rewarding viewing from every angle.
The glaze has a subtle depth and softness, allowing tonal variations within the blue decoration that give the piece a distinctly hand-painted character. The foot and stem are finished with concentric painted bands, visually grounding the piece and completing the composition with elegant restraint.
On the underside of the base, the vessel bears the potter’s hand-painted signature, consisting of two initials along with a date, confirming its authenticity and studio origin. The base also shows the characteristic unglazed foot rim associated with traditional tin-glazed wares.
