This is not simply a desk. It is a piece of furniture people stop and admire the moment they enter the room.

A rare and impressive secretary bookcase from the Arthur McMillan Private collection, entirely covered in richly patinated dark leather and finished with gold tooling and brass hardware.

The upper doors are designed to resemble a library filled with antique leather-bound books. Behind them, and inside the writing compartment, are numerous drawers, storage spaces and cleverly concealed compartments. Some of the decorative “books” are actually hidden storage compartments.

The front opens to form a generous leather writing surface, while the lower section offers three large drawers. The drawer interiors are lined with traditional marbled paper.

Originally purchased for approximately €10,000. The original Arthur McMillan Private name plaque is present and will be included.

This is a substantial, highly decorative statement piece for a luxury home, private library, executive office, hotel, restaurant or distinguished reception area. Pieces of this character and craftsmanship are extremely difficult to replace.

Condition:

The secretary is structurally solid and fully functional, with a beautiful aged patina. There are three areas of visible wear to the leather, mainly around the lower section and one side panel. These have been photographed and are reflected in the asking price. They can be restored by a professional leather restorer if desired.
